Mental Health Care Specialty (6 Hours) – $75 Enroll Now

The State-developed course provides in-depth training for workers on the specialized needs and care of individuals with mental health issues. The course includes a general overview about mental health disorders, cultural sensitivity, respectful & non-judgmental communication, tools & methods to handle challenging behaviors, identifying decompensation & relapse, crisis & suicide intervention, and basic information regarding medication.

This class is used to satisfy employment requirements for Adult Family Homes, Boarding Homes, Assisted Living, or similar care setting with passed written and skills examination. Students may test as a Long Term Care Worker, or as a Manager. In order to ensure your highest success rates, students taking the Manager exam will not be testing at the end of class & must come back within 30 days of class to test during one of the test dates offered (most Tuesdays at 9am – see training calendars). If class is taken as part of the Population Specific training, students may choose whether or not to test. Students choosing not to test will receive a Mental Health Population Specific certificate.

 Level One – Dementia Capable Caregiving (8 Hours) – $75 Enroll Now

This updated State-developed curriculum replaces both the Dementia LTC Worker and Manager Specialty training and will be taught starting in June 2017 forward at both locations. It provides in-depth training for workers on the specialized needs and care of individuals with dementia related issues. The course includes methods to help explore and handle challenging behaviors such as: physical violence & aggressive behaviors, the impact of dementia on communication, how to effectively assist a person with dementia with ADL’s, ideas & tips for involvement in meaningful activities, differentiation between hallucinations & delusions, intervention strategies, dementia’s effects on sexuality, medications, and supporting caregiver’s well-being.

This class is used to satisfy employment requirements for Adult Family Homes, Boarding Homes, Assisted Living, or similar care setting with passed written examination. Those that pass the test will receive the Level One – Dementia Capable Caregiving certificate. If class is taken as part of the Population Specific training, students may choose whether or not to test. Students choosing not to test will receive a Dementia Population Specific certificate.
