Initiative 1163 Training Requirements (75 Hours)

This training is a combination of 3 components for a total of 75 hours. This training is required for new caregivers employed after 1/7/2012 or existing caregivers who were not employed as caregivers any time in 2011.

  •  5 Hour Orientation and Safety
  •  40 Hour Core Basic Training
  •  30 Hour Population Specific Training

Orientation and Safety (5 Hours) - Available through our Online Training Program

Orientation topics include the care setting, job responsibilities, the care plan and care team, client rights, documentation and reporting, mandatory reporting, and basic communication methods and techniques.

Safety topics include body mechanics, worker safety, accident prevention, emergency , disaster, and evacuation preparedness, hand washing and gloves, infection control and standard precautions, fire safety and prevention and fall prevention.

 

Core Basic Training (40 Hours) - $225 - Enroll Now

Core Basic Training is an enhanced version of Revised Fundamentals of Careigiving, teaching Long Term Care workers the skills and knowledge needed to provide basic care to a client. The increase in training hours offers caregivers additional time to practice skills and more time is allotted for new material, activities, videos and/or guest speakers.

 We will have you prepared to take your examination!

 

Population Specific Training (30 Hours) - $165 - Enroll Now

1. Mental Health Care Specialty (6 Hours)  Enroll Now

This course may be used to meet part of your Population Specific requirements for caregivers in general and/or meet employment requirements if working in an Adult Family Home or Boarding Home serving individuals with mental illness.

The course provides in depth training for caregivers on the specialized needs and care of individuals with mental health issues. The course includes, a general overview about mental health disorders and most common, culture sensitivity. respectful and non-judgmental communication, tools and methods to handle challenging behaviors, identifying decompensation and relapse and ways to help, crisis and suicide intervention and basic information regarding medication.

** If this course is used to meet part of the Population Specific requirements a certificate of completion is issued without testing.

** If this course is used to meet employments requirements for AFH or Boarding Homes serving individuals with mental illnesses passing a skills testing along with a written test is required prior to receiving a certificate of completion. INTERPRETERS MAY NOT ASSIST WITH TESTING.

This is state developed education class required for Caregivers and Managers.

2. Dementia Care Specialty (8 Hours) Enroll Now

This course may be used to meet part of your Population Specific requirements for caregivers in general and/or meet employment requirements if working in an Adult Family Home or Boarding Home serving individuals with dementia.

The course provides in depth training for caregivers on the specialized needs and care of individuals with dementia related issues. The course includes, tools and methods to help explore and handle challenging behaviors such as physical violence and aggressive behaviors, the impact of dementia on communication, how to effectively assist a person with dementia with ADL’s, ideas and tips for involvment in meaningful activities, diferenctiate between hallucinations and delusions along with intervention strategies, dementia’s effects on sexuality, medications, and supporting caregiver’s well-being.

** If this course is used to meet part of the Population Specific requirements a certificate of completion is issued without testing.

3. Young Adults with Physical Disabilities (8 Hours) Enroll Now

This course will increase awareness of the deterimental effects of stereotyping, what defines a disability, and the use of people first language, how traumatic brain injury (TBI) is different from other kinds of brain disease and the new hope for survivors of TBI and their families. The course will also address, the basic understanding of some of the more common physical disabilities, the necessity of giving individualized care, how different disabilities have different sexual implications and how to understand the complexities of sexuality.

4. Challenging Behaviors (6 Hours) + Navigating Through Challenging Behaviors (2 Hours) Enroll Now

Through this course, caregivers will gain a better understanding of adult and children challenging behaviors. This course will demonstrate that the right strategy and appropriate response to challenging behaviors is individualized and that good caregiving skills have common principles regarless of client’s agae, disability, medical or mental health issues. The course will also address children’s behaviors. Caregivers will earn to evaluate and implement a child’s PBS as well as understand that a child’s challenging behaviors are their method of communication.



Nurse Delegation: CORE - $50 -  Enroll Now

Offered as either a Self-Study Course or In-Person training (Everett only) –
may be used towards 9 hours of your yearly continuing education credits.

Prepares caregivers to accept nurse-delegated tasks, previously performed by a licensed person. CORE includes the role as a caregiver performing a delegated task, the role of the Registered Nurse Delegator, and the tasks that can be delegated including medication administration.

Upon receiving enrollment information and payment for in-class training, a confirmation/receipt page will be mailed to you with class date/times/location. Please see our monthly training calendars available on the main training page to see available in-class dates offered.

Upon receiving enrollment information and payment for self-study training the course workbook and DVD to study with will be issued and a test date scheduled within a 30-day window. Testing is conducted most Tuesday mornings at 9am and can be scheduled at Sunrise Service’s Training Centers in either Everett or Mount Vernon. Please see our monthly training calendars on the main training page to see what Tuesdays testing will be offered. Students that do not return the DVD given to study with on their test date will be charged a $10 replacement fee. Please note that the practice exercises in the workbook MUST be completed in order to test, as this is what shows you have completed your self-study.

NOTE: Only caregivers enrolled with Sunrise Services, Inc. will be tested. If training material was obtained frm another source, the caregiver will be required to enroll and obtain material from Sunrise Services, Inc. before scheduling your test date.

DSHS requires that this course be offered in English. Interpreters cannot assist with testing. ESL dictionaries can be used. You do not need to repeat the course to continue to be qualified to be delegated.



Nurse Delegation: Special Focus on Diabetes - $25 -  Enroll Now

Offered as a Self-Study course only –
may be used towards 3 hours of the yearly continuing education credits.

Pre-requistes: Proof of successful complete of Nurse Delegation Core (see above).

This course is the first step in preparing a nursing assistant to preform insulin injections as a delegated task.

Upon receiving enrollment information and payment, the course workbook and DVD to study with will be issued and a test date scheduled within a 30-day window. Testing is conducted most Tuesday mornings at 9am and can be scheduled at Sunrise Service’s Training Centers in either Everett or Mount Vernon. Please see our monthly training calendars on the main training page to see what Tuesdays testing will be offered. This course is the State developed curriculum which is designed to provide the required education for Managers and Caregivers who work with individuals with Mental Health issues in Boarding Homes and Adult Family Homes.

The course provides in depth training for caregivers on the specialized needs and care of individuals with mental health issues. The course includes, a general overview about mental health disorders and most common, culture sensitivity. respectful and non-judgmental communication, tools and methods to handle challenging behaviors, identifying decompensation and relapse and ways to help, crisis and suicide intervention and basic information regarding medication.

A written test will be administered after successful completion of the required course hours. A passing grade is required for a certificate to be issued. INTERPRETERS MAY NOT ASSIST WITH TESTING.

CPR/1st Aid (Adult, Infant and Child) – $60 - Enroll Now

Approved for all Adult Family Homes, Group Home Members and Certified Programs for the Developmentally Disabled, and all community caregivers. Class includes training in adult/child/infant CPR/1st Aid and use of automated defibrillators. Multiple classes are offered each month. A certification card will be issued upon the successful completion of the class. The certification is valid for 2 years.



Skills Refresher – $60 – Enroll Now

Open day at our Skills Lab filled with hospital beds, mannequins, wheelchairs, and more. An Instructor will be present. If you are a Homecare Aide and have not yet tested for Prometric skills testing, then this class will give you additional practice and help prepare you. If you are a Nursing Assistant and have not yet taken your NACES skills test, then this class will give you opportunity to practice. We are also excited to announce State approval to offer this class for anyone needed CE credits who would like to brush up on personal care skills.
