From Home Care Director to Director of Sunrise Caregiver Training

Christian & Sharon

For the past 26 years, Sharon Bowers grew our Home Care Agency from its infancy in 1989 to the dynamic, multi-faceted department it is today. From the beginning, Sharon’s dedication, focus and perseverance has provided countless seniors and people with disabilities the compassionate care they deserve.

In 1997, Sharon also began our Sunrise Caregiver Training program which she still leads today. Recently, we celebrated her semi-retirement as Director of Home Care so she can focus solely on providing training for caregivers. A special thank you to Sharon for your years of service developing and leading our Home Care Agency and Caregiver Training Program. We are grateful for your vision, dedication and compassion.

In a few sentences, how would you describe the last 26 years?

When it started, our Home Care Agency consisted of one employee – myself. I would wake up in the morning and head to the clients home to provide personal care and prepare meals for the day. I’d then head to the office to work on policy development, general administrative tasks and work on hiring new caregivers. I’d finish the day back at the clients house to once again provide needed care and get dinner ready. Today, we have a staff of about 450 people who work with countless individuals in their homes – something I’m very happy about.

What are some of the changes and challenges you’ve experienced over the years?

Today, the regulatory environment is much tougher than it was in the beginning. The oversight required to meet the needs of current regulations is very extensive. Although our caregivers do an amazing job working in this structure, it does take constant attention. In the end, we have a wonderful professional staff who work closely with a tremendous group of individuals providing care.

What is next for you as Director of Sunrise Caregiver Training?

I’m looking forward to continuing to grow our training programs.  We have contracts with the State of Washington to provide caregiver training so it’s great to provide this important function that ultimately provides the best possible care for those in need. We are continuously developing our online class portfolio and soon will provide 40 hour Basic Training as an online option. Along with this, we offer Nurse Delegation, the NAC Bridge program for Home Care Aide -Certified and so much more.

We would like to once again congratulate Sharon on such outstanding work developing our Home Care Agency and look forward to continuing to work with her in her role as Director of Sunrise Caregiver Training.
